Most of us have had the experience of hearing beautiful music that can make the heart take flight. We smile, sway, dance, or just close our eyes with a deep breath to take it all in. It is as if, in that moment of time, all is well, life is wonderful. The harmony from the composition engenders a feeling of harmony with all.

Mind is a name given to the sum of the states of Consciousness grouped under Thought, Will, and Feeling. During deep sleep, ideation ceases on the physical plane, and memory is in abeyance; thus for the time-being “Mind is not,” because the organ, through which the Ego manifests ideation and memory on the material plane, has temporarily ceased to function.

Jack Patterson

Jack Patterson was a prominent member of the Theosophical Society in New Zealand having joined from a young age he was involved in the Young Theosophists of the day.  During his life, he became the General Secretary of both the Australian and the New Zealand Section.  Jack was a deep explorer of Theosophy and shared his understanding through many presentations.

The state of being aware, either of something external or internal. In sentient beings, it is the concomitant of thoughts, feelings and sensations. The word “consciousness” is ordinarily associated with common waking consciousness. But the latter is only one type of consciousness.

The Seven Veils over Consciousness

This thesis contains many statements which by their very nature cannot be proved. Nevertheless, I consider it is my most original contribution to Theosophical knowledge. I realize that very few will understand it, but I desire to put it on record as what I have thought and lived for over forty years.
