Bawaji

(S. Krishnamachāri). A Recording Secretary of the Theosophical Society (TS) in 1885 under the name S. Krishnaswami. An early associate of the founders of the Theosophical Society who was a chela of the Master KOOT HOOMI. He was also known under the names Darbhagiri Nath and S. Krishnaswami. Not much information is on record about this man. He traveled to Europe with Helena P. Blavatsky’s party in 1885. He is mentioned several times in The MAHATMA LETTERS TO A. P. SINNETT: Letter No. 134 [64 in Third Edition] when he was allegedly used by the Master K. H. to test a medium called Mrs. Holloway; Letter No. 91 [110] when he was criticized for borrowing money, having lost his; Letter No. 84 [111] when he was being used as a messenger for K. H. Bawaji is mentioned in an article by Blavatsky as one of those who were privileged to see the Masters in their physical form (CW VI:216). At some stage Bawaji seems to have had a disagreement with Blavatsky since he sharply criticized some of her writings.
